Lending a Hand to Build a School for Girls - 1839

A November 2nd. 1838 advertisement in the Southern Citizen newspaper announced that citizens Asheboro had “pledged themselves to erect a female academy at this place” - and they asked fellow citizens “to extend to us such aid as may be within their power.”

The Blacksmith is a story of one citizen’s answer to the call.
